How To Start Blogging For Money

September 14, 2009 By Ron Leave a Comment

Blogging for money has become a very hot topic online, everywhere you turn you can see other blogs and websites giving you information and facts on if you start a blog, you can make money.

In actual fact many of these sites are even saying that you can make thousands of dollars blogging about your favorite topics, passions or hobbies.

Setting Up Your First Blog Is Easy However…

Blogging For Money

When you first start online with your new blog venture you will notice that setting up a blog is very easy but one thing that can slow you down from making that big amount of money is gaining the readership or in other words blog traffic.

To get traffic in itself and if not done correctly can be difficult and very time-consuming. For those that have been fortunate enough to pick a hot topic that virtually guarantees instant traffic and if it is in a “How To Niche”, then you might be able to make money with your blog.

Most webmasters or people who are getting into blogging are choosing the WordPress platform where you can host it for free if you are blogging for fun or you can host it yourself.

One of the better hosting companies for this is HostGator to set up your blog as there tech support (via live chat) is the best that we have seen for sometime and their reliability is excellent that’s if you decide go with that platform route.

There is also Blogger.com which very is simple to navigate for those who are not HTML savvy at all.

You Have To Select The Right Theme (Niche)

Deciding on what you want to blog about is the fun part but narrowing it down can be hard if you’re not sure where to start. You don’t want your blog theme to be all over the place and the key here is your niche topic. It’s fine to blog about sub topics inside of your niche but the more tightly themed you keep your blog the better the results will be for you.

Affiliate bloggers who are successful when it comes to blogging for money usually have many different blogs on many different topics so if they are itching to blog about something else or become bored with a topic they can and avoid being stuck on just one topic which can cause what is known as Blog Burnout.

Should You Have More Than One Site

A really good idea is to start a number of blogs that are themed around the same topic, that way you are not writing the same old thing day in and day out but you can vary your topics and keep your interest in you blogs.

As an example you might consider having a blog about weight loss but to write all day about weight loss would probably send you mad so the idea is to have one let’s say on Detox Dieting and then another on Abs training you see how they are all related but the content is not the same repetitive writing day after day. You could break your blog posts up into days of the week and each day write an article on a different topic.

What Type Of Blog Should It Be To Make Money

If you decide to go with an informational type of blog which is basically called a content site, then you can have Google Ads set up or even affiliate links and banner advertising. It’s free to sign up for Google Ads and anytime someone clicks on an ad, it’s worth pennies to dollars. Be aware that it’s becoming harder to earn money from Google ads because every site has them up. The easiest way to implement this strategy is to have the Google ads blend into your blog.

How To Make Money Blogging

Another way blogging can earn money for you is by selling a product it doesn’t have to be your product it can be a product you have become affiliated with for a percentage of the proceeds.

Or it could be your very own product or e-book you are promoting. Again, it takes hard work and promotion to get your blog kicked off. Make sure you are promoting what you are selling to the correct market.

There are all sorts of products you can sell to your readers but the internet is known for an informational tool. So offering information that is hard to find online or that is not online yet is the ideal niche to enter into. Try to tap into something that has not been done millions of times.

Finding a niche can be hard initially especially knowing where to look so we recommend you check out the Free Wordtracker Tool as a good starting place.

How Do You Get Traffic

Many other sites suggest that you should get links to promote your blog, exchange links with other bloggers who have the same market (niche) however, this is the last on our list of things to do as there are much better ways to drive traffic. You can add your blog to niche blog directories. Get the word out using social networking sites like Twitter.

There are many people who are probably looking for what you have to offer on your blog.

However the best way to get traffic to your blog and there is no magic to this is writing articles and placing them either in article directories or on other people’s blogs this gives you a massive amount of back links to your site. Many say that article marketing is dead, however they are very much mistaken especially when you can write a quality article and place it on a site that has thousands of visitors, makes you an authority in your niche and gets your site indexed very fast.

Organize Your Content And Stick To A Plan

With an organized plan and knowing what you will offer your readers with your blogging strategy, you can make money from your blog. It may be very slow in the first year but take note of what is not working and change it. Read and see what others are doing with their sites. You would be surprised by how many bloggers share their own tips and tricks just like we are doing for you now.

In many cases bloggers who want to make money give up too soon, but for those who are prepared to stick it out you’ll see your efforts pay off overtime. And remember one thing that many don’t realize once you have a profitable blog the income you can get from blogging is residual meaning you will be paid over and over again.
