Banner Advertising And Affiliate Marketing

July 7, 2009 By Ron Leave a Comment

If you are going to be using banner advertising to try to make money on your websites then it is necessary to effectively promote your site so that you can attract traffic. Without traffic virtually any campaigns you run will be useless.

The only way to do this is by having good quality content, it will give you credibility in your niche market and will encourage visitors to click on the information you have given them such as banners or even AdSense Ads.

As you know there are many different techniques that you can use to advertise your websites such as article promotion, Google AdWords, forum signatures (No Longer Effective) and such, however one of the best ways is through banner advertising.

Be Warned: Using forum signatures may now be considered as negative SEO, so use it very sparingly.

Understanding This Type Of Advertising

This form of advertising has the ability to bring individuals that are on other sites to your site with a click of a button. While it can be costly at first for you to promote yourself on web sites that have a high amount of traffic, in the long run it can be more effective and less pricey than waiting for your page ranking to improve.

You can choose to pay to advertise on other websites (This is Against Google’s TOS) or take advantage of free banner exchanges. There are good and bad points for both options that we ought to take a look at before you start down the path of banner advertising.

Should You Use Free Exchanges

The exchanging of banners on each others websites is known as free banner exchanges. You place their banner on your site and they will place your banner on their site also know as reciprocal linking if it were only text links. Although these are free they do have two problems. Foremost, if you want your banner on a healthy number of web sites, it will mean cluttering up your own website with these free banner ads. Some people today, 2014 still think this is effective and even some hosting companies utilize this form of marketing to offer cheap hosting in return for having marketing placed an a website.

This can be counterproductive if your visitors are clicking on the banners rather than clicking on the products or services you are offering.

Secondly, you have to be really careful about the types of websites that you are reciprocating with. There are many sites out there that just collect banners making them no more than a portal or a directory rather than a website that offers useful information to its users.

Another name for these web sites is a link farm, and they do not supply any positives for your website, but they will be taking the reward of your traffic from your quality content.

Should You Be Using Paid Advertising To Promote Your Site

As we saw above, free banner ads don’t really work, and will never pay off.

If you are going to do this type of advertising you are going to need to make sure that the web sites place your banner where their visitors are going to observe it and that they genuinely do have the traffic they say they have.

Secondly you want to ensure the site you are paying doesn’t have many banners on their website, or that your competitors are advertising there. However there are some big dangers with buying links even if they are banner advertising links, Google does not allow paid links in any way whether you are selling or buying them, your site can end up heavily penalized for doing this.

Banner advertising can end up being a money-making venture for you site if you go about it the right way. If you are going to utilize any ads then ensure that you follow the suggestions listed above and all the terms of services associated with the search engines.

Is There A Better Option!

You have probably taken a look around our site and realized that here at AffiliateXFiles we don’t use banner advertising to promote our site, and you would be right.

How many banners do you think you would need to place on other sites and how much time would it take for you to do all this and then make sure the banners remain active on those sites.

Before getting to heavily involved into marketing your websites with banner advertising you should really consider getting some quality one way links to increase not only your site traffic but your free search engine rankings as well.

How can you do this, well the best way is by doing guest posts on niche related blogs or simply writing quality articles on your own blog where others will not only comment on the content but will also add links to the content as well. Doing it this way is firstly free and secondly benefits everyone involved including the search engines and can even increase your social influence online.
