Understanding Blogging Basics

August 29, 2009 By Ron Leave a Comment

When you’re new to blogging, you can be unsure of what you’re suppose to blog about or even how to set up your blog to start, here are some blogging basics to get you started.

There is no right or wrong when it comes to blogging for your blog is whatever you want it to be.

Here Are Some Tips To Get You Started

Blogging Basics

Blogging basics starts with you being passionate about your blog topic because it will show in your blog posts that you write. When you have a genuine interest in the topic of your choice, your readers can feel it and will also contribute to you posts.

This is one of the most important aspect of blogging basics.

If you’re not sure what the topic of your blog is going to be, decide on what you want to share with people.

Do you want to share the positive things that happened in your day-to-day life?

Maybe you want to share information on how to take care of a Parrot, Dog or Gold fish. Your topic should be an extension of yourself which will make it easier for you to blog about.

Another aspect of blogging that has gained momentum in the last 12 months or so is affiliate blogging due to the increased interest that the search engines pay to blogs in general and the ease and speed in which a blog can be created online.

For the affiliate there are many plugins available to enhance your affiliate blog such as Max Blog Press Affiliate Ninja and Max Banner Ads (Free) all of these plugins have made it much easier for the average blogger to make a profit from blogging online.

Another aspect for creating an affiliate blog is the ease that you can obtain quality links to your site just by writing quality content that will be distributed by RSS feeds from across the internet. In doing this and over time your blog then has 100’s of one way back links now pointing out it not only growing your traffic but making it an authority in its selected niche market.

The Importance Of Visual Effects

One of the blogging basics you need to understand right from the start is creating a visual impact with your blogging efforts. When you write-up your blog posts, try to include a related photo or a video that adds interest for your reader. If you’re blogging about recipes, it’s only a given that there will be a photo of that delicious dessert you are blogging about.

There are bloggers who either forget or don’t think they need photos to place in their blog posts but remember, online is all about visual impact.

You want to be able to catch your reader’s attention for the entire post so that they can subscribe to your blog and keep coming back.

Another important aspect of blogging basics is writing a blog post, add a catchy headline for your title. You want to bring in your reader right away to the first paragraph of your post. Write with the blog style you want to convey to your readers and they will reciprocate. If your blog is engaging, involve your readers by interacting with them in your posts and comment section.

You can even add polls. Remember, your blog is your own network community.

If you’re unsure of what to blog about, don’t write that day. Take a break and keep it fresh by writing when something new hits you. You’ll be amazed at how even a day will make you miss blogging. Keep your blog posts short and not article length. There is nothing worse than a very long blog post with no photos and no paragraph breaks. Make sure to break up your words and keep it readable.

Choosing Your Topics

Our final blogging basics is about  understanding that there are so many topics to choose from, you can break up your week with posts that are related to your blog theme. If you are blogging about taking care of Fish, you can have a blog calendar that is available to your readers.

For instance, Monday could be about food. Tuesday could be about cleaning the Gold fish tank.

There is so much you can do with a blog calendar to ensure your readers always keep coming back!

Don’t let your blog stress you out and when you’re in doubt, take a blog break or you could risk getting burnout. Writing should be an enjoyable pastime or hobby. Make sure you enjoy what you are blogging about and don’t get bogged down on just one topic just move onto another topic related to your niche!
