Yes you are right, CommentLuv Premium has an anti-spam component built in call GASP which is very useful for eliminating spam as well as the many other features that entice your commentators to interact with your site. However my favorite thing about CommentLuv Premium is as you have said the high quality comments you receive by using this plugin.
I think for most part this is down to the fact that those bloggers using the CommentLuv premium plugin are more professional bloggers that are building a solid online presence.
Commentluv is a great plugin to ret rid of spam and it encourages a blog’s reader to leave a thoughtful comment. Which helps the blog owner to improve the quality of his or her blog. Moreover, it helps to create a community over a blog. Not only for backlinks, overall it is a great plugin. 🙂

Yes you are right in your comments, sine updating to CommentLuv Premium I have noticed a big swing for spammy comments to people commenting that have authority blogs in the same niche.
I have also started to build some solid relationships with others that are using CommentLuv Premium which was not something that was happening previously.

The only question I have for anyone not sure about this plugin is what price do you place on success. The amount of additional quality comments I have received on all my WordPress blogs plus the influential bloggers that I have also met through using this plugin far out weighs the price.

I am against on nofollow attributes. I mean bloggers can do it nofollow and this will be like a pay back for those commenter giving quality comment and at the same time spending minutes on their article and reading it.
