How To Use An Autoresponder

March 18, 2010 By Ron 4 Comments

If you are using internet mail, or if you own a website, you should know how to use an autoresponder.

Basically an autoresponder is used when a website visitor subscribes to your site for some free information, e-book or even software.

Then that subscriber is placed onto a mailing list where you now have permission to send them information about your niche market.

Some Common Uses

AutoresponderOne common use and a more basic technique is to simply have your email set up to notify people who will email you, telling them that you aren’t available because of a various reason like being on holiday, sickness, etc.

This type of use is for the common internet user, but also for individuals who are trying to make a start to do business online.

As you can see this type of mailing is not just restricted to advertising and marketing there are many reasons someone can use an autoresponder.

You should use a service like this for the following reasons:

The most important place for an autoresponder to be used is at a websites technical support e-mail address or contact page, where it will reply with preset messages to your users responding to their answers or notifying them with changes or other important things that may or may not affect them.

This is perfect solution if you don’t want to hire someone to simply be replying to any emails you are receiving and depending on the niche you are in this could be a lot daily.

Having an autoresponder service is the most cost-effective method to do this.

Another use is to advertise your affiliate or merchant products informing customers about your prices and notifying them with new products and promotions or other information. This is a great way to help boost your revenue.

Autoresponders Are Widely Used By Affiliate Marketers And Various Other Online Businesses

Here’s How It Works.

A webmaster will create what is called any opt-in form on their website and then visitors will decide to join that mailing list usually called a newsletter. Once they are subscribed they will then start to receive e-mail messages to the subscription address.

Basically the only reason they will do this is to get such things as a free sample of a product which he is trying to sell e-books, online courses, software products or simply to supply information to build trust with the subscriber.

After seven to ten emails have been sent you will find that the vendor is now starting to send more direct email messages which could be asking the customers to sign up and pay for the full product. The consistency of this type of email campaign can really increase sales and traffic for your online business.

The key to this is building trust with your subscribers and you can only do that by sending quality information that will help them solve a problem. If you only intention is to send marketing emails right from the start you will be wasting not just your time but your subscribers as well.

You Should Always Be Aware Of Sending Spam, This Can Destroy Your Online Business Fast

Using an autoresponder isn’t free of risks because of spam which is a big issue in today’s online world. You need to think before you send It’s very easy to get carried away wanting to send a lot of emails which can be considered spam with an autoresponder and lots of people do it.

Before deciding to go with an autoresponder service analyze your needs and try to figure out if you really need one.

You should do some research about autoresponders and how to avoid spamming with them if you’re new at it. The internet is a big place, an almost endless source of information just by using a search engine you’ll find the right autoresponder for your needs and the guide to use it.

Autoresponders can become your best friend or your worst enemy. It is crucial to understand how to use them appropriately and in accordance with internet policy and law. Most countries have very strict laws regarding spam, it can be very damaging to your online business so be careful.

One of the best way to make sure you are not going to be involved in any sort of spam is to use services like Aweber or Getresponse, these services allow you to offer confirmation that the subscriber actually wants to receive the email which gives you a suitable layer of protection.

Autoresponders are necessity for online businesses. How you use them is the question.

Spamming is a temptation. When playing the dreaded numbers game it’s easy to let emotions defeat common sense. Before clicking the “Send” button ask yourself, “Is what I’m sending going to be useful for my subscribers”. This will save you headaches from angry opt-in’s and the risk of losing a sizeable portion of your list.

    Great tips.

Spamming can bring down your business even though many think that it is useful. In my view it is not at all preferable. So, we have to be careful enough while using autoresponders. Your post explained how to use it properly. Thanks for the tips I was not aware of earlier.

      Welcome back Huck

I don’t know how many times I have subscribed to a newsletter to get some really good content only to find that in a months time my in-box is filling up with junk with every offer being sent to me every single day. As soon as I see it now and that is whether I had respect for that marketer or not I hit the unsubscribe button very quickly.

Pass useful knowledge to your subscribers and they will stay with you for a very long time, present quality products to them that you yourself are using and profit from and even offer support if time allows it for those products and you will have them for life.
