Buying And Selling Websites The Art Of Site Flipping

November 28, 2009 By Ron 11 Comments

We are sure you have heard of flipping websites you know buying and selling websites and how it is the easiest way to make money online for the simple reason that there are so many webmasters or online business owners who are looking to buy established niche websites.

The reasoning behind this is very simple, these webmasters are looking for a site that is already established online with good search engine positioning an already established brand of of course the most important aspect ready made traffic.

This is how site flipping basically works you find a website that you think has potential and want to buy, you then improve it and then re-sell it. With just a very small investment and some of your time, you can make hundreds of dollars in profit in a very short period of time.

How To Start Buying And Selling Websites

buying and selling websitesIt takes some practice at the start when buying and selling websites but all you need to do is start looking for viable websites which a listed at good prices which are within your working budget.

This to remember when looking for these sites and it really is no different if you were buying real estate (also called flipping properties) to do a complete renovation your profit margins will be bigger if your investment is small.

Of course you are going to have to put some work into the website this is way you can pick up the website at such a reduced price.

Buying And Selling Websites Under $100

Look for websites for sale that are under $100 to start out which you can look over quickly to see if they hold any potential so that they can be easily flipped.

Unless you have scored yourself a real bargain you are going to have to build up the site to its fullest potential in order to get a buyer for the site quickly. The best places to find suitable website deals is on DigitalPoint forums and SitePoint forums which are the most popular places for buying and selling websites.

It will take some time and practice to figure out which websites are worth buying and which ones are not because everyone who gets into the business of buying and selling websites start from the beginning and need to go through the learning curve remember, what is working for you may not work for others.

When Selling Websites Make Sure The Content Is Unique And Correctly Optimized For Search Engines

Once you buy the website you wish to use for site flipping, you need to take a look at the content of the site. Is it original content or has it been done over again and again, like PLR Content. There is a lot of PLR content out there that website owners use on the same niche sites which can have a negative effect on the website.

You should try to use original content by at least re-writing the PLR content, if that is what has been placed on the site by the previous owner. The re-writer we use is called Magic Article Writer from Alex Krulik which also comes with a Magic Article Submitter which gives you access to 625 article directories at the click of a button.

Content is king and using SEO is even a more effective way to add value. Make sure the site is optimized to its fullest potential so that search engines can pick up the website easily.

If you have SEO on your side, it can help increase the site traffic faster than other marketing tricks and any potential buyers of the site will see that it has been marketed correctly which at the end of the day could potentially result firstly in more money for the site or a faster sale.

Make Sure The Site Is Already Making Some Form Of Passive Income

Buyers like websites that are properly setup to make money. If you are flipping a niche website on pet stain removers, you should be complimenting it with an affiliate product that relates to the niche.

By adding affiliate products and some Google ads integrated in the best spots on the site, you have a good chance of building up some profits before selling the site. If you can earn money on the website, it will increase your asking price since buyers can see that there is potential for this site to become profitable for them.

Promoting The Site With Unique Articles

When buying and selling websites it is a very good idea to make sure you get some back links to the website by writing up articles on the related topic and submitting the articles to free article directories, again you can use Magic Article Submitter.

However a very effective method you can use which will increase your link backs significantly is re-writing the articles and submitting unique articles to each directory. You can also create back links by visiting related blogs and leaving the website link in your comment.

If you want to create a better visual appeal to the website, you can even add a new website header and fix up the layout by using free templates you can find by doing a search online.

Now that you know the basic steps in buying and selling websites, it’s simply buy, flip, sell and repeat to create an internet income.

Yes you are correct in saying this… that the webmasters are looking a website that already has same sort of standing in the search engines…

What you need to be aware of however is if these websites have been created with quality content or whether it has been created with nothing more than plr content. You need to make sure that all the pages of the site are indexed and not just the front page.

Having to change all of the site content can also hurt any listing you did have with the search engines.

      Yes Arne

You are completely right in what you say, if you can get yourself an aged domain name that already has back links then you are going to save a lot of hours trying to get traffic and your first sales happening on the site…

Yes there are many people making a solid living from this as we speak…

It is not a hard process to do to find a profitable domain name and it can be very lucrative when you get it right. And as you say sometimes by simply giving the website a small face lift and adding a fe more articles can increase its value substantially. Of course this will usually depend on the niche the website is situated in and how much demand there is for that type of information, product or service.

I could have been doing this ages ago! I bought a few domains about five or six years ago but never did anything with them. If I’d just worked on them for a bit, tried to make them into profitable sites and improved the ranking, I could sell them off for a sweet profit now.

      Hi Debbie,

Its never to late if you still have them simply install a wordpress blog, add some decent content to them as well as all legal pages being privacy, disclaimer, contact and so on and then point some links at them, once you have traffic list them for sale.

Or you can forget all that if you are going to keep these domains and simply use Adsense for domains so you can monetize them while they are sitting there doing nothing. You never know you might be able to make enough money from doing this to have these domains for free until you are ready to use them.

If we use scripts like Pligg for site flipping, and after sometime it will also help. I am not good in website flipping, but I think these auto content websites are very useful. Thanks for the nice tips.

This is interesting. I’ve heard of people flipping baseball cards or houses, but never really thought of the same idea with websites. What would be some important elements to have in your favor when wanting to buy websites? My friend is a web designer, so I’m assuming he would be helpful in terms of changing up the view of the site?

      Hi Koi

Yes you are right having a web designer that is able to give you advice or even give the website a makeover is a big plus… however you also need to consider adding more content as well as hooking the site into the social networks to give it a strong influence online.

Once you have cleaned the site up got some traffic coming in you can then flip the site and make some money for your efforts.
