How To Choose A Profitable Domain Name For Your Online Business

June 24, 2010 By Ron 3 Comments

It is said that registering a profitable domain name is the first step when you are trying to sell something online.

Whether it’s a product or service or even affiliate products your are promoting, the name of your website is important. It not only brands your business but it will either make you or break you.

If you have a domain name that is hard to remember or even very long (more than twenty characters) and not search engine friendly, then you will have to work even harder in marketing your website to see any results.

Here are some very simple ideas and suggestions to get you started in choosing the right domain name that can be profitable to your online business.

Understanding SEO Can Help You Select A Profitable Domain Name

Domain NameLearning more about SEO is important to any online business simply because you will have the knowledge and understanding to know a profitable domain name when you see one.

If you don’t have a clue what it stands for, then it is time that you made an effort to learn about search engine optimization and how it can benefit your online venture.

This is a must if you want to become knowledgeable about creating an online business that is not only successful at bringing in traffic but profitable as well.

Your website name should always be search engine friendly. Not only should search engines love it but you should know why.

Your domain name should have keywords that are often searched on by consumers. When you do your research, you must find out as much as you can about your potential market. What are they looking for on search engines? How do they search for a product? Where are they going for that product?

To do this you have a few options, firstly you can simply use a free keyword tool from Google™ by simply typing into your browser “Google Keyword Tool” and getting a list of keywords as well as the monthly traffic. Or if you are more serious about making your online or affiliate business successful you need a tool such as Market Samurai which gives you many more options when deciding what keywords are best for your online business.

To Have A Profitable Domain Name It Really Needs To Reflect This…

What is it that you are selling?

The domain name of your website has to tell people right at the start what your website is all about. If you are selling scrap booking supplies but you have a name like johns-outdoor-adventures.com then it will become a very costly and for some time consuming exercise to actually market your site in the scrap booking supplies niche.

This is not a domain name that explains what you do and who you really are, actually if I were to come across it it would appear to me that it is more of a personal website than a business site.

So How Do Your Find A Profitable Domain Name

If you are in fact selling scrap booking supplies, a quick tactic is to go to Google keyword tool and type “scrap booking supplies” with the parenthesis around the words, or you can use a tool called Domain Samurai. This will bring up all the websites that have these words in their website content or domain.

You can view what other domain names are out there that sell scrap booking supplies. Take note on what is indexed in the top ten.

Once you have figured out a good website name that uses the right keywords which by nature should then describe your website to anyone searching in that niche, you can check out domainsbot.com for profitable domains, it is like having a domain name search engine and can save you hours of time trying to find a domain name that works for you.

This is a great place that will give you numerous variations of domains with the chosen keywords that you are using.

Not only will domainsbot.com tell you if you can acquire that domain name as it will be listed on the site as available, it will give you more ideas and options to select from without you having to brainstorm ideas over many days you can see what you need to see instantly.

It will give you an idea of what other domains are out there or which ones could be expiring in the near future, however expiring domains can be a little more costly to purchase but can be well worth the effort. You might want to read our post on An Expired Domain Name Is a Great Marketing Tool

Finding a profitable domain name may seem hard at first glance but once you have the process down, it’s really very easy and in no time you will be able to find domain names fast and even start buying domains that you can make use of with you affiliate marketing or your own online business.

If you are looking for cheap domains then the place to go would have to be Godaddy where you can your register domain names and if you buy them in batches, they offer a discount. Also, don’t forget about searching for coupons for discounted domain names that are out there which can give you additional savings when purchasing a profitable domain name.

      Hi John…

Yes a domain name is very important for SEO purposes and if you select wisely from the start it can have a major impact on where you are positioned in the search engines and what traffic you will receive. One of the better tools for finding this information is a tool called Domain Samurai which at last look was free to download where it will find suitable domains for you from the information that you input into the software, this also includes domain names that are expiring.

Thats for being part of our community John your input is appreciated… 🙂
