Getting The Most Benefit From Your Twitter Tweets

November 26, 2009 By Ron 2 Comments

Now that you have joined Twitter, there are a number of different ways of posting a tweet that you should be aware of.

However you have to get your message out using only a maximum of 140 characters per post or “tweet” as they are called. There are no limits to the amount of times you can tweet it can be as little or as often as you want, as long as each individual tweet does not exceed the maximum 140 characters in length.

When you post a message to Twitter and hit “update” this is when it can be viewed by all of your followers this is one of the main reasons many affiliate or online marketers were quick to start using this platform as it is a very effective way to place a product or service in front of thousands of people instantly.

Why Are You Using Twitter

Twitter TweetsIt does not really matter much as to what your reasons are for joining Twitter they could be purely social, professional, or a combination of both, there are ways of making your tweets more appealing and effective and therefore other twitters are tempted to read more about your tweet.

Webmasters using Twitter for professional networking such as online/affiliate marketing often tweet links to their own published work, products or services, such as a blog or a static website, and/or published articles online that they have found useful to their needs.

As well as that and due to the growing popularity of twitter, many more people are tweeting links everyday and it requires a lot of work to get people to click on your twitter links.

This is one of the reasons why, and it’s extremely important that you make an effort to craft a headline that sets your Tweet apart for the thousands of other stories that are constantly being submitted. It could be a humorous Tweet or news but it must be brief and to the point which is what the twitter experts say.

There Are Proven Methods To Crafting Better Tweets

One method for posting to twitter might be to pull a direct quote from a story that might make people want to read it. For example, if everybody is aware of the general news of the day especially on a popular topic, tweeting an article with a general headline on (“Global swine flu cases continue to rise” for example) might not be as compelling as a new quote from say, someone like the head of the CDC.

Assume people have already read the news story that first hit the internet, and show them why you have read something that is more valuable or a lot more in-depth than the story they have previously read. It also shows what facts in the news story that was important most for you.

Many of the Pro Bloggers and social media analysts who have actually studied what makes for effective tweet links and click-able headlines have come up with some basic guidelines, among them, keep it brief (extremely important) , no puns (can be annoying and hard to decipher for other twitters), use keywords, use hashtags, DON’T consolidate stories (i.e. only one tweet per story), link directly to the story (NOT a home page) and avoid the use of subheadings.

There Are Many Applications That Can Help To Better Promote Your Tweets

Twitter Tools or what I will call applications that have been developed include such platforms as TweetDeck will rack every time your Twitter handle appears in a tweet. After you tweet a link or make a post, you can then view how your followers receive it and whether they have re-tweeted it.

You also have Twitscoop which gives you the advantage of watching conversations in real-time and if you are an affiliate you can watch keyword trends in any niche market you choose.

In addition to following your re-tweets on Twitter’s search tool, other tools help you track the pervasiveness of the links you share. TweetDeck users have adopted the use of bit.ly to shorten the URL’s that they tweet. If you join bit.ly’s website (it’s free), you can also track the performance of links that you tweet.

Another effective tool to have is the Tweetmeme plugin for WordPress where you can see the tweets you have received on your site and what are the popular links on twitter currently, you can subscribe through an RSS feed or just use your Twitter account.

Following Patterns Can Lead To More Effective Tweets

Eventually you’ll notice patterns for tweets that are being well-received by your followers and the twitter community in general. Usually this will be dependent on the target audience, which can, after all, be very diverse. Trying to establish want it is that actually makes your Twitter followers click and retweet your articles is an ongoing process that will likely require continuous testing and adjustments.

A great service you can use right now is JustRetweet not only can you add your tweets but you will be able to connect with some very influential bloggers that are already using this service.

The way to tweet is short and sweet. Brevity rules. With only 140 chars to work with it’s easy to become long-winded.

Yes Ryan you are right if it is not direct and to the point you will loose the interest of your audience very fast for sure. Think about what you want to tweet even go to twitter and see how others are structuring the text to get an idea of how to do it.
