May 12, 2010 By Ron 5 Comments

Why Is The Domain Name So Important

Domain NameThis will be the branding and identity of your business to your potential customers. The domain name is what people will use to refer your website to others so there are many things to consider when choosing the best name for your site.

Below are the following basic tips when choosing the right domain name for your business.

Everyone one will tell you that search engine optimization is the key in building a website with quality unique content and easy to follow navigation but a domain name that is rich in keywords will be much more helpful in the serps at getting you the traffic you need to be successful online.

For this reason you will want to choose something that will fit the description of your online business.

For example, if you are selling organic clothing, you want to do your research.

Research on what items in the organic market your customers will be searching for on the major search engines. You will most likely find that words that are popular are organic and eco-friendly if you are indeed selling organic clothing.

Always try to be specific in the keywords that you are searching, especially for search engine optimization purposes. If you are focusing heavily on belts, then do some market research on belts using a keyword tool so that you can brainstorm some ideas for suitable domain names that will rank well in the organic search listings.

The Right Domain Name Can Easily Brand Your Online Business For You

It is essential that you choose a domain name that describes your online business model and product or service right off the bat. Not only for the benefit of the search search engines but when people hear the name, they should be able to associate it with what you do.

For example, if you have a generic name like “mywebsitebusiness.com”, people will have no idea what kind of site you have and may not be interested in finding out. These types of domain names also make people very suspicious of your intentions and they tend to avoid them, making all your efforts a waste of time.

Stay Away From Generic Any Domain Name

Generic names like that are only good for user names such as email addresses when you are not in business. Your domain name should always be professional and have great marketing potential. A generic name cannot be taken seriously and will lose it’s marketing power because there is nothing that sets it apart from other clever names.

Keep Your Domain Names Short Whenever Possible

Always keep your domain name short, meaning less than twenty characters. It’s much easier for people to remember short domains and can be easily jotted down. A long domain name that consists of four words or more is too long for someone to remember.

Remember, people don’t want to spend too much time trying to search for the correct domain on search engines. That is why it is a very sound ideas to keep your domain name short which in effect will actually make it memorable to your site visitors and can be quickly typed into a browser by them, making your much easier to find online.

There are a lot of domain name registration companies online today that offer very reasonable deals on when you want to buy a top level domain to start your online venture. A .com name is easily recognizable around the world and looks more professional to your potential customers. When people are typing in domains off the top of their heads, a top level domain such as .com is always used first.

These domains can be purchased for only $7 and up annually with some domain name registrations. Do your research and find the best place that works for you when you sign up your new domain name. Don’t forget to take advantage of virtual coupons to save you even more money on your new domain name.

For those that have a good budget amount it might even be a viable idea to make an offer on an existing domain name that is either not being used but has been registered, or is simply being parked for sale. Yes Grace

To many people put the cart before the horse and register a domain name before they even know what their target market will be. Do your research first about the product or service you want to promote, from that research you should be able to get a suitable domain name for your online business.

I am not a big fan of Godaddy however but everyone’s preferences and requirements are different.

I agree how important it is to have a domain name that reflects the content and the target market. Your domain name is your professional brand so be very clear about it from the beginning. Do some research and decide from the beginning what domain name fits your online activities to save you not only money but time as well.
