How To Start Flipping Websites For Profit

December 2, 2009 By Ron Leave a Comment

Many affiliates stay away from flipping websites because they feel that it can be to time consuming and especially if you do not know where to look.

Buying and flipping websites can be a popular way to earn money or even a part-time hobby for those who enjoy flipping websites. Flipping websites basically means buying websites that you will turnover quickly in order to sell them for profit.

The goal behind flipping websites is to choose a profitable niche and develop the website for as little cost possible.

So Where Can You Find Information To Start Selling Websites?

flipping websitesWell there are a couple of different ways you can accomplish this, firstly you can buy yourself a domain name in a selected niche and then create the website (usually a WordPress blog). You then need to populate your site with content.

Remember when placing the content you need to make sure that it is unique as possible and as tightly themed to your niche as it can be this will all help with the selling of the site.

The reason you want it so tightly themed is that you will also have more targeted traffic which if you have done your research correctly will generate more sales which will also increase the value of the site significantly.

The next way for you to flip a website is to find a website that has potential but is being neglected or poorly managed by its owner virtually the same as if you were going to flip a house.

You then do a complete renovation of the site making sure that any duplicate content is removed or articles that are not related to the site topic. You can also and this is completely optional, change the site graphics to make them more appealing to any potential buyer but this also depends on how fast your want to Flip the website.

Next you want to build the traffic up to a sustainable level by using article marketing but not reciprocal linking as you really only want to have one links to your site to get it index in the search engines more effectively which again relates to more traffic.

Reciprocal linking requires some monitoring to ensure the links are still in place and you want to be able to hand the site over with as little maintenance as possible to the new owner again this will give you a better selling point and profit.

To Start Flipping Websites You Need To Find Websites To Buy

One of the best places to find websites that can be flipped into profit is on Digital Point forums. It is free to register and has a huge online community of website entrepreneurs. If you scroll down on their forum homepage, you will find a section called Buy, Sell and Trade where there are always hundreds of opportunities for both buyer and seller.

On Digital Point forums, you will see a section called Sites with daily listings. If you’re looking for WordPress blogs to small content websites, this is the place for you. You may have to do a bit of digging for there are always websites being listed but you can find online entrepreneurs getting rid of sites in bulk at times.

You can also list in the same section of Buy, Sell and Trade that you are looking to buy websites as well. This can give you even more options for those who don’t post stuff on the forums. Do be specific in what you are looking to buy.

Let people know what website niches you’re looking to buy or willing to look at and whether you’re open to it being established or not. Remember, you’re buying to flip websites that have far more potential than what their owner can see.

The Marketplace at Sitepoint has a section which is now called Flippa where you can find websites to buy and sell. Buying a website here is easy and done in bidding format. There are always websites being listed on a daily basis and you are free to ask questions to the seller.

Make sure to read all the comments made by others so that you can find things you may not have thought of before you make your bid. You can find all the details on the site from the seller from when the website was established to traffic. Look for profitable niche sites that you can easily turn over.

Buying And Selling Websites Privately Can Be A Risk

For those looking for websites to buy privately, you can always check out Craigslist where there are many website owners looking for buyers to take over their websites or blogs. Always make sure that the person you’re buying from is legitimate.

Most webmasters have a website set up with testimonials from past buyers, and whether they are real or not you can not be sure. These webmasters create start up websites or blogs by the handful with intention of selling them to website flippers just like you for a profit.

Now that you are aware of this tactic make sure the content of the sites are original if the seller is claiming it’s all original. Most website makers use PLR content if they are producing mass amounts of websites in a short time. You also need to see some evidence of site traffic and sales if any are being claimed by the seller.

Don’t just take their word for it make sure you can see actual facts or you could end up being burnt. Also make sure you use an escrow account at somewhere like escrow.com for private website sales. NEVER EVER send money directly to the seller.

Getting A Residual Income From Flipping Websites Is Easy If You Know How…

If you are intending on Flipping Websites as a professional career you might want to consider another aspect that can give you a residual income for many years. It will not be a lot of money but if you are flipping 50 websites a year you could see an extra $5000 in your account for virtually doing nothing and this will grow each year.

When you sell a website to the new owner and as a bonus to get them to buy, offer them a free year of hosting through the reseller account you have set up and then every year after that you can be receiving a renewal fee for hosting giving you residual income. We use HostGator to on sell hosting to all our clients.

Hopefully this has given you a good head start for any affiliate that wants to get involved with flipping websites for profit.
