Is Your Email Marketing Campaign Really Spam

October 12, 2010 By Ron Leave a Comment

Email marketing is all too often associated with spam. And to be honest, way back in the early days that wasn’t far off from being a fair comment.

These days though the two aren’t usually related, at least not with honest marketing. Above the level email marketing campaigns are all permission based which means there is no spamming involved.

Still, there is a huge temptation factor in getting into the spam scene. There are many companies around the world wanting you to use their services and let them do the spamming for you.

Resist the temptation, you are wasting your time and your subscribers. It won’t work. In fact, it rarely does work for most legit companies. If that isn’t enough to turn you off of it, check out the following.

Email Marketing Spam Can Get Your Hosting Account Terminated

email marketingI have not meet anyone online to date that likes spam or even think it is an effective marketing tool and ISPs don’t like providing a haven for people who spam with email.

It’s more than possible that if you revert to spamming for your internet email marketing campaign you will lose your internet service altogether.

People don’t even have to complain for this to happen because you can be caught other ways.

Of course, a few complaints sure wouldn’t help you either and by simply using a service like Aweber or Getresponse you can eliminate many of those easily.

Sometimes The Technology These Spammers Use Is Turned Against Them

Not literally however. Still, the internet technology you use can be turned against you. If you end up targeting the wrong people with your spammed messages those people might start targeting you. Hackers love the chance to mess around with people who are breaking their much loved internet etiquette, and spamming is amongst the worse things you can do in that regards.

Spamming Through Email Marketing Is Just Not Ethical

From the first days of email, before spamming even had a known name, it was considered unethical. It’s irritating plain and simple, and it has given legitimate email and legitimate marketers a bad name for a very long time. Some email providers whose users are big targets of spammers can attest to that fact, as many of their users went MIA just to escape it.

It led to many major and even smaller companies having to invest thousands and thousands of dollars into putting up anti-spamming safeguards. Still today some systems can get around these safe guards resulting in 100’s of spam emails hitting the webmasters account and in some cases their clients accounts as well.

Spamming Through Email Marketing Will Without A Doubt Destroy Your Online Reputation Fast!

Chances are, if you’re considering spam tactics for your email marketing initiative you likely don’t have much of a reputation to damage. Chances are though, you want to build up a good one. Starting out with this tactic won’t do you any favors, and it will actually hurt your likelihood of getting a good reputation at all. Beware as well, the internet doesn’t forget. Once a spammer always a spammer.

Many people will warn others against your online business practices for years to come, on blogs and forums across the internet, even when you’ve stopped using spam emails and in the worst case scenario, you did not realize your were spamming in the first place.

And Just In Case You Missed The Point, Spamming Is Illegal

Email marketing is fine and has proven itself to be one of the best forms of advertising there is especially for affiliates. Spam however is not fine. The United States, for one, has formed laws that prohibit it and the penalties for spamming are huge. If you wind up resorting to this ill advised method of marketing there is at least one thing you can take solace in: You’ll likely never make it big enough for the law to take notice.
