How to Make a WordPress Site Mobile

September 27, 2012 By Ron 1 Comment

Are you interested in joining the mobile marketing revolution?

How to Make a WordPress Site MobileDid you know that experts are predicting that eventually, more people will use mobile devices than even use PCs in the coming years?

It sounds like you should start making plans to make your message mobile. The only question is; how can you do this?

After all, most WordPress users don’t have a lot of programming expertise and have no idea how to mobilise their page, probably meant for a standard Internet connection.

How to Create a WordPress Theme Compatible with Mobile

Well, the first scenario is just to buy a WordPress theme that has this option built in. Of course, if that’s not an option for you then you can try some other tips.

For example, some plugins can install a mobile version of your site instantly. That means that users who visit your site from a mobile device would automatically see the streamlined mobile version. Of course, it might serve you better to give readers a choice. Perhaps they have 4G and want to look at your site the way it’s meant to be displayed rather than a streamlined version.

The safest bet is to give readers a choice upon the entry page. If you want to go mobile, then don’t just create a mobile version of the same site. Devise content that is meant for mobile users. That means very sharp, attention-grabbing text. You don’t have dozens of paragraphs to make your point. More like a few sentences.

Tips on Running a Website on a Mobile Connection

You also have to avoid large images, since these will take more time to load—and this could be a problem on some mobile devices. Usually, the total number of images is limited to two. They should also be used efficiently, for instance, as a means to break up the text. It’s also ideal to create alt text for images that do not appear on a mobile device. Eliminate any Java or Flash programming since many mobile devices will not display this content correctly.

If necessary, you could devise two sites—one for PC and one for mobile. Then again, you have to be careful with Java anyway, as it does you no favours in SEO.

Another option is to install a particular plugin called the WordPress Mobile Edition, which displays an interface that is specially designed for a mobile device. You should know however that there are several versions of WordPress. There is a WordPress for Apple iOS, for Android, for Blackberry, for Windows 7, for Nokia and WebOS.

It may be easier for you to create a mobile site once you have access to these particular options. Or, if you want to invest in this project, then create an app, which is something well beyond a mobile site. This is a user experience made for mobile units. Apps can be anything from games to interactive features, video or sound related functions.

Do You Need a Mobile Site Right Now? 2017 And Beyond YES!

With the popularity of mobile devices, expect this market to expand in the coming years. One more aspect to consider is how much you want to invest in mobile marketing.

True, mobile marketing is enormous and growing…but how will your business profit from mobile marketing?

If you don’t know the answers yet, research them and wait. It is not practical to create a mobile version of a site if you don’t know how to sell to mobile customers. However, it is a subject worth researching in the future.

Great info. Mobile marketing is extremely powerful. Cell phone users are the largest audience on the planet, and you can make a lot more money with much less time and effort than many other forms of marketing. This makes it super effective with very high ROI’s.
