Facebook Mobile Will Cellular Phone Companies Cash In

July 23, 2010 By Ron Leave a Comment

With the ever-growing popularity of Facebook, there are many external companies wanting to join in with this rapid growth market as well, which is what prompted the creation of Facebook Mobile.

Through marketing and just plain demand, Facebook finds itself available to people not just through their home computer and the internet, but from cellular phone companies as well.

Since Facebook has more than two hundred million users on the social website, the appeal of finding other ways to access the site is growing constantly.

A Change Was Identified By This Social Networking Giant

Facebook mobileThis social networking company saw the changing society and popularity of their service and decided themselves to move forward. By creating Facebook Mobile an existing Facebook customer can automatically receive notices when an alert has been posted, or an email sent to them.

Facebook mobile also offers people a chance to upload photos directly from their cell phones.

Furthermore, depending on what options have been selected for using Facebook mobile, people can even access maps and driving directions, phone a friend directly from their Facebook profile page, or just after and update their own profiles on Facebook.

While Facebook mobile is a free service to Facebook users, cell phone carriers may charge, (and normally do charge), for using the service.

With technology advancing at such a rapid rate, cell phones are becoming more acceptable in every day culture. In fact, it is hard to survive without one if you are an active member of society.

Seeing a growing market for Facebook, cellular phone providers have jumped into the market in the hopes of making extra money for themselves. There are only a few cell phone providers who do not offer some form of multi-media option on their phones today.

By providing access to the internet from a cellular phone, a person can check their Facebook, (or any other website), from their own phone. The connections can be instant giving people the chance to constantly be connected to their Facebook friends.

How Expensive Can It Get?

Naturally with the increase of services offered, there will be an increase in fees as well. For a basic cell phone people can be charged as little as fifteen dollars per month. However, with the option to surf the internet, check Facebook, and either send email or upload photos the fees go up drastically.

In a quick comparison between Bell Canada and Rogers a basic package with 1GB of upload/downloading a person will pay between sixty-five and eighty dollars per month.

That is close to twenty percent more per month that a person pays just to have internet access.

While it is nice to be connected on a regular basis with friends using Facebook Mobile, people will need to be aware of the extra costs for that instant connection. Obviously there are increased monthly costs that are inevitable; however, there are also the fees for a new phone that can support these new-found options.

Some of these high-tech cellular phones can cost close upwards of five hundred dollars, and this is before the plan is added in. As more internet based services become available, this need will certainly increase as well. It is already said that Facebook Mobile has 150 million users world-wide.
