Facebook For Business Facts and Statistics

July 27, 2010 By Ron 2 Comments

Facebook facts and statistics provide relevant and insightful data on present market trends and behavior.

They are also a good indicator of future trends. They provide useful information for business strategy and decision-making. If nothing else, market facts and statistics show where the numbers lie, and where the numbers lie, there lies the opportunity.

That is true for online social marketing media. Below are a few facts and statistics on Facebook, the dominant player on the online social marketing scene.

Why Facebook Has Become The Business Networking Forum

Facebook For BusinessFacebook is the largest social networking site on the internet. Started in 2003 as a student networking site, it has grown to become the world’s largest social – and increasingly business – networking forum. It offers a platform where people can interact and catch up with their friends and acquaintances.

Members can post and share links, photos and videos. Users can create personal and business profiles, list their interests, exchange messages and join or create similar interest groups.

Thus, within its profile pages lies the world’s largest database of personal information. Facebook profiles the most comprehensive demographic, geographic and psycho-graphic data in one place.

Information on Facebook is well-defined and classified, something that should be of interest to any business.

Why It Draws The Biggest Crowd

Facebook ranks as the world’s second most trafficked website after Google™, and in some instances more than Google™. It boasts a global membership of over 350 million. That number is projected to double in the next three years. Daily, about 200,000 people sign up for new Facebook accounts. It is projected that Facebook will soon replace e-mail as the preferred business communication tool.

It Gives Business Has The Perfect Marketing Audience

More than half of Facebook members are aged over 25 and in the working class category – the perfect marketing audience. Membership in Facebook is diverse, cutting across the demographic and social divide. Membership consists of college youngsters, Fortune 100 Company executives, businesses, organizations and multinational outfits.

Politicians and celebrities also constitute the membership. About half of  all Facebook members are there for business purposes.

Why Big Business Has Turned To This Social Giant

Big companies are increasingly using social media such as Facebook to interact with their clientele and gain helpful insight at the same time. Surveys indicate that 60% of the world’s top retailers have an active presence on Facebook. Surveys also show that a growing number of companies are increasingly advertising more on online interactive media than in traditional media.

In using social marketing media, companies report increased earnings at reduced marketing budgets.

Surveys conducted among business persons document that 81% of online marketers use social media such as Facebook for increased exposure of their businesses. 62% of business persons credit Facebook for increased traffic and sealed business deals. 85% of small business owners claim to reap direct benefit from use of social media.

A whopping 81% of business executives state that social media marketing boosts their bottom line results and enhances their brand and business relationships.

Clearly, the impact of online social media has been phenomenal, especially for business. Social interactive media is here to stay and businesses that tap into it can expect to record improved performance and better results.

The converse holds true. The Facebook facts and statistics have spoken.

Did I mention statistics do not lie?

I’m doing some research on the benefit of using Facebook, i.e. social websites, for business purposes and found your article. You mention “surveys” and statistics, but you don’t mention where you saw the surveys or the statistics came from. Can you share that information with me?

    Best regards,
    Ron

      Hi Ron…

There is no real place that I got those figures from except what has been reported in the media from around the world, so I cant give you an actual webpage URL where you can go and get that information all laid out. Unfortunately you will need to do what I did and slowly put this information together from many different sources to find the answers that you need.

I am also sure that due to the popularity of the many news reports and the statistics that these figures mentioned would have changed some what by now, so please only treat as a guide. A lot of this information initially surfaced when the media was reporting on Facebook getting bigger than Google™.
