The Evolution Of Social Networking

December 19, 2009 By Ron 4 Comments

The concept of social networking has existed since long before the internet and online affiliates, though as a fully developed concept in the world of social science, it’s still a relatively new thing dating back no more than a couple of hundred years.

In that scenario, the social networks represented a study of which groups that were within a society are interacting with each other and the results of these types of studies were responsible for producing a lot of useful data about our history as well as our future.

The Evolution Has Began

As an internet concept, in reality the social networking scene has existed since the beginning. In the beginning the internet was driven by the needs for many different computers from all over the world to communicate with each other for purposes of business, military, law enforcement and many other such things.

Evolution Social Networking

It can be argued that the social potentials of these very interactions were always on the minds of the early internet pioneers and which has probably lead to the evolution of the social network scene online.

To follow the evolution of online social networking is quite fascinating because it has not only evolved a significantly within a very short period of time, but its evolutions are clear and definable.

There are many computer or social historians as well as the every day computer user that can very easily distinguish and review the moments throughout the last thirty years that helped form the social networking scene, and the moments in which it took small or large steps forward in its evolutionary path.

Today people think of this type of online networking as something that takes place on the World Wide Web between friends and colleagues. The web, however, has only existed for a fraction of the time that the internet has been functioning, and this kind of networking goes back right to the roots of the net as a whole.

Do You Remember The Days Of Forums And BBS’s

Initially, people and groups would interact in such networks in virtual environments that were powered by forums on Usenet and BBSs. These methods of networking were much less efficient than they are today and also a lot less private, as the idea of, and ability to create and manage, friends lists and other such things had yet to be born.

Many Gamers Already Had Their Own Form Of  Networking Through Online Chat Programs

The early versions of online gaming worlds also helped drive the idea and desire to push forward with formal online social networks. These virtual gaming worlds would allow players of RPG style games to communicate with each other and often they would do so while identifying themselves within certain groups.

The World Wide Web came to exist at the dawn of the nineteen nineties and soon the early incarnations of social networks were transferred into that new medium. In the world of the web they were able to evolve more rapidly, though most were overwhelmed by larger and more attractive network models.

Millions Of People All Over The World Are Now Involved

By the end of the twentieth century millions of people around the world belonged to these newer social networks that were hosted on websites and were able to communicate with each other and new and unique ways. Many of these social networks died off due to competition and others due to lack of profitability, but once the web came into its own the new and surviving social networks became the ideal money-making environments.

For the simple reason that they could advertise to millions of members at a time and with very little effort. This was not only realized by the site operators but the many online marketers and affiliates wanting to promote their products online.

Today online social networking sites show absolutely no signs of slowing down or even leveling out they are constantly growing bigger and better. In fact, they are growing faster than ever and it isn’t easy to find internet users who don’t belong to at least one of them and especially if you are involved in online marketing or affiliate marketing groups.

Yes it is growing faster buy the day now with the search engines such as Google basing some of their ranking factors on the social influence of your site, you now need to be involved in social media more than ever.

So maybe these guys did have a crystal ball to see into the future or maybe they were just very aware of human nature and how we all need to interact. The social networks allow this to happen instantly and we all look for things like that today in every day life simply because we are all way to busy to spend to much time doing one thing.
