Affiliate Marketing for the Holidays

December 18, 2013 By Ron Leave a Comment

affiliatexfiles_holidaymarketingDecember is the one time of year when retailers know they’ll generate sales. For shoppers, you’re a one-stop shop for everything on their lists. To retailers, you’re a valuable sales rep who can bring in new business. Your business is especially valuable to shoppers and retailers during the holidays, as long as you use the right strategies.

Like other retailers, your affiliate marketing business has to reach out to customers. However, you also have to convince other retailers that you can deliver more business to their sites. One way to do this is to show them how great your holiday campaigns are. Follow these marketing tips to become a holiday life-saver for shoppers and merchants.

Highlight the Best Products

You might promise an endless variety of products to customers, but they’ll only go to your site if they like what they see up front. Increase retail sales and your commission by placing the best holiday products on your home page.

Some products are obvious, like the hot new toys and games of the season. However, other products should be chosen because they were popular with customers. Run product analytics to determine what products customers have bought in the past and what they’ll likely buy this season.

Get Special Discounts

When a retailer offers a special deal or discount, it’s a let- down to customers when your site offers the same products at full price. Stay in tune with merchants by offering the same discounts they do and try to offer discounts of your own.

Also, stay in touch with advertisers so you know which incentives they’re running and request a code so your customers get the discount, while you get the credit for it. Consider offering deeper discounts on your own, either as a special sale or through a loyalty program.

Customize Ads

Affiliate marketers attract many different customers because they sell so many things. The problem is, to reach their sale goals, they have to target ads to each distinct audience. The same goes for the holidays, so craft the right holiday message for each campaign.

You don’t have to rewrite the same ad over again – use a dynamic keyword insertion tool and display the right ad every time. Someone searching for fine jewelry will see the same ad as someone searching for girls’ dresses, only with different terms. Also, customize your ads so the right audience is exposed to “Christmas savings”, as opposed to “Holiday specials.”

Create a Holiday Showcase

A seller of used trimble equipment might sell each piece separately or bundle them together in one package. This lowers marketing costs, which increases the return on investment. Your site will enjoy the same benefits if you combine multiple items to create one holiday showcase.

One way to do this is to group items by room. Create a showcase for the living room, kitchen, bedroom and even bathroom. Or, you can focus on the holiday itself. For instance, build a holiday meal with products from a meat seller, a wine distributor and a bakery.

You’re counting on the holiday season to ramp up sales and so are your advertisers. Keep everyone happy with strategies that generate clicks, increase revenue and make everyone’s holiday happy.
