Understanding Social Networking For Affiliate Marketing

December 17, 2009 By Ron 2 Comments

Online social networking services are more popular now than they ever were especially when you talk about affiliate marketing, and there is clearly a trend that shows the services are only going to get bigger over the next few years.

Once attracting only the Internet elite, the younger more we savvy users who knew their way around and understood what they were getting into, the social networking websites are now attracting people of all ages and backgrounds. But what makes them so attractive to all of these people?

What used to make them popular was the sheer ease in which they allowed for communication.

social networkingOriginally that’s just about all these types of web services were actually good for until affiliates got involved to start promoting their affiliate products. People would log on and be able to communicate with each other through postings on primitive style blogs, and in some cases instant chats.

Over time these things evolved and services that used to only allow for one of these forms of communication began to open up and offer the others as well. These days only social networks allow for a lot more.

The Power Of Having A Large Network Of Friends

The first thing that makes these networks distinct over plain and simple web postings is that users can choose select friends lists and some have created massive lists that can easily be promoted to. Those lists allow users to decide which people on the Internet can view the things that they put online, and who’s information they want to see for themselves.

That this concept has become more efficient in practice is one of the things that made the services popularity grow.

The Uploading Of Photo’s And Videos Has Added To The Popularity

Another key feature of just about every social networking site on the Internet is the ability to upload and view photographs. This practice has grown in popularity in tandem with the increasing adoption of digital cameras. By adding this clear visual element to be shared between networks of friends, the benefits of the services became even more astounding.

While letter writing and phone calls have made simple communication possible for decades, the concept of instantly sharing images between friends and family is quite new. More than simple images, social networks now allow for videos to be posted by users as well.

This idea took a bit longer to catch on than the posting of photographs, but over the last little while there we have seen the average home computer advancing in its abilities, and it has seen people’s ability to record digital videos just by pushing a button expanding as well. Affiliates from everywhere are also now creating videos for the promotion of products and services.

The Incorporation Of Portable Internet Devices

Perhaps one of the biggest attractions to Internet social networks has come from the sudden boost in adoption of portable Internet devices. When Internet capable cell phones first grew in popularity it was squarely within the business community, but as they became more advanced and affordable, regular everyday consumers started snatching them up.

It was a natural move for social networks to open up easy access to users of these devices.

All of these benefits combine to make social networking a difficult thing for people to avoid. It allows them to share all of those simple to use benefits with people they are close with as well as people who they, until now, haven’t been able to maintain regular relationships with. The appeal is undeniable, and all of this will only see more people jumping on board during the next few years.

Hi there,Insightful post, although i’m more fascinated in what will come out of this google vs facebook social network war. I haven’t discovered much news on it recently, which most likely suggests that it’s not that far off, but i’ve got a idea its going to really mean several massive improvements to social networks. I think, i’d rather facebook left the war still in the lead because google’s already big enough, additionally they already hold a lot of data on everybody. I do not believe that the two can exist though, either google’s social network will control or totally crash. What does anyone else believe?

Yes this is going to be like to titans doing battle… However one thing in Google’s favor here is that it does not get the bad publicity that Facebook seems to receive on a weekly basis around the world.

All we can do is wait and see what comes out of all of this…
