How To Create Your Very Own Favicon.ICO For Free

September 23, 2009 By Ron 3 Comments

As an affiliate marketer and wanting to make your site look as professional as possible many try to find what is called a Favicon.ICO for their site.

However what you will quickly realize is that there are many sites discussing Favicon’s and how to make them but if you don’t have the software such as Photoshop or Adobe Fireworks then you are really going to find it hard to get what you want.

So What Is A Favicon?

favicon.icoSo for those that are not familiar with what a Favicon is which by the way has had its name adapted from “ICON” it is an image that you can see in the URL address bar of your web browser when you visit a site or if you happen to bookmark a site the Favicon.ico will appear in your favorites along with the site name.

As you can see from the screen shot to your right there are now images beside the bookmarked  sites in this favorites folder you would have to agree that they really stand out in the crowd. This not only makes your site more noticeable in the favorites folder but gives it a professional appearance online.

You can also see the image below, this is a screen shot of a URL address bar in a web browser where you can see the Favicon image displayed this is a very effective way of branding your online business site.

Hey Ron, thanks for sharing this resource. I just created my first favicon using the free favicon generator and can’t believe how easy it was to do. Watch the video, take a couple of notes, follow the easy instructions and boom – it’s done, and on the first try! Now I’ve got a cool, professional looking Favicon that sets my site apart from the rest.

    Hey Ron,

Thanks so much for the great write up! (and love your little “alien” favicon by the way!!!)

In addition to adding a dash of uniqueness/professionalism to one’s site, you can actually
use your favicon icon to drive more website traffic… that’s something that’s not widely known.

I’m not going to say that it will drive large volumes of traffic but you can use your favicons to
expand your website’s exposure and build links by submitting it to a variety of “favicon gallery” websites
    completely for free.

There are a number of websites that have online “favicon galleries” and most will allow you to submit
your favicon icon image for inclusion to their site. Once approved, your favicon will be displayed on the
their site and most will link directly to your website from the favicon image.

For more information, and a few favicon gallery references, visit my “More Favicon Info” page here:

Thanks again for the write-up Ron. You’ve got a great Affiliate Marketing Training blog here and I hope your
visitors find my site useful to them!

Nice article Ron. Kevin really has a great free resource going there. And Kevin — thanks for the tip about submitting to favicon galleries — great idea.
