Choosing The Right Autoresponders As An Affiliate

February 9, 2011 By Ron Leave a Comment

Let’s suppose you own a affiliate website and your traffic isn’t increasing and your autoresponders mailing list is being deprived of subscribers.

Many online business owners find themselves in this predicament. How can you take advantage of this situation?

The answer you need is a “autoresponder service.”

Understanding The Functions Of Autoresponders

autorespondersWhen you use your autoresponder properly it will help your business grow bigger using e-mails to advertise your products or services and much more. An autoresponder will save you countless hours of preparing and sending out emails.

Autoresponders act very much like a personal assistant they save you time and money.

Here’s more detail about this hard working software. Basically autoresponders are classified in two mains categories. Let’s talk about what we will call “self hosted” autoresponders.

These must be hosted by your website so if you don’t currently have a website, you’ll need to establish one before you can use this kind of autoresponder.

However be warned that if incorrectly implemented it can cause many problems for you, we don’t recommend doing this.

The second type of software is what we will call a “3rd party autoresponder.” This one is hosted elsewhere, usually the company who sells it and will have servers to host their product too. If you don’t want to invest and take the time to purchase a domain name, this is the best option for you. It simplifies the process but is a bit pricier.

One of the best companies which sells this kind of software is Aweber.

The question still remains which autoresponder service should you choose?

Most specialists agree that the best one to choose is the hosted autoresponder such as Aweber or Getresponse. The number one reason for this is because of spam. Spam is an increasing irritation on the internet. Spam in essence is simply unwanted, solicited email.  There are many laws that govern the use and misuse of spam.

Your Autoresponders Can Help With Spam

Your mail server can be blacklisted if there are a number of spam complains against it, and in some cases large fines. You can avoid having complains against your mail server by making your subscribers confirm their subscription to your mailing list, also known as a double opt-in system. It will reduce the amount of spam complaints but will not eliminate them 100%, the risk is still there.

It’s always important to have an anti-spam policy listed on your website for further legal protection.

When we speak about a mail server it is usually the mail account associated with your ISP or the domain name that you are using for your business. Having a spam complaint against your online business can be very damaging for you.

Choose Autoresponders With A Good Name

That’s why it’s better to choose hosted autoresponders because with the services named you’ll be able to take advantage of its reputation too. Remember to choose a brand with a good reputation. Still the 3rd party autoresponders aren’t perfect. There’s a down swing too and for many people it’s the price. The price tends to be higher then the self hosted counterparts.

The self hosted autoresponders are best suited for new and small businesses, but when your email list and business grows larger and the risk to loose it isn’t acceptable. As an example of a self hosted autoresponder we used Mailloop 7.0 for some time but once our list grew to more than 2000 subscribers we started to experience problems.

Another downside to having a self hosted autoresponder on your computer is the need to be constantly online 24/7, meaning your computer is always on.

Take time to do proper research yourself. Always look for quality reviews of the various programs available to help you make the right decision. The more you investigate, the more you can make a confident choice.

But remember this, we spent many months researching list building and after much trial and error settled on Aweber as our primary autoresponder service, and have done for the last three years.
