As for the free sites like Squidoo and Hubpages these are sites that you use to promote you main site you do not want to base your business on these sites as the can be turned off very fast if you breach their TOS.

If you are serious about getting into this then pick a niche market your are comfortable with then register a domain name and get yourself a good hosting company. You will then need to write articles about the niche and then post them to your blog.

This is a very basic explanation of where you need to head to get started. The idea here is that you are creating a business and you can’t do that if you use free sites.

Yes this is what I call an affiliate killer… Those affiliate that start their online business promoting as many products as they can will at the end of the day struggle. Where all they need to do is some market research and select a product that they can use to generate a residual income and then expand into other areas.

The biggest issue here though is the time it really takes and with all the information online about making 1000′s of dollars over night is very misleading to a lot of the newer affiliates trying to make a start.
